C.Baker

Microscope Lamp

Price 1000.00 GBP

This is a microscope lamp thrown out of a laboratory about 20 years ago with the advent of microscope with in-built lights. The lamp needs replacement. It looks to have been produced by C.Baker Instruments Ltd in the late 1960s. If the paper sticker on the instrument is from the company (rather than the laboratory), then it may have been produced in 1969. Charles Baker opened his instrument shop at No 244 (and later 244a) High Hoborn in 1851 according to information on the website of the National Museums of Science & Technology (UK). He appears to have become a renowned instrument maker. This link is to a medal awarded to the company: http://www.microscopy-uk.org.uk/mag//artfeb04/hwmedal.html He was succeeded by C.Baker (?son) around 1920. The company changed name to C.Barker of Holborn Ltd in 1949 and then C.Baker Instruments Ltd in the 1960s. The business ran until the 1970s. That is as much as my website research provided me but I would be happy to hear more about this instrument. How many in existence is a guess! but I can’t expect many of these to be surviving. This is the first item on this new website, so all the money will be given to my local charity, The Chiltern Multiple Sclerosis Society, Buckinghamshire.
